The Problem with Vonage
Vonage is a relatively new VoIP communications business that has gained a bit of a bad reputation lately. The problem with Vonage? This company may not be complete just yet.
Though Vonage has been in the spotlight lately due to its security issues, these problems can really happen to any type of VoIP company. Since VoIP lines do not support encryption, they are relatively easy to tap into. Why is this a problem? While you may not care whether or not your neighbor listens to your phone call, there may be other people out there collecting your information. The problem with Vonage certainly centers upon the company’s lack of security, but there are other issues to consider as well.
Many Vonage users often complain that this VoIP company has poor customer service. In fact, if you have begun using Vonage, you may discover that hardly a customer service department exists at all. Therefore, if you choose to use Vonage, expect to be a bit of an internet whiz in order to keep your phone line functioning. Another issue that has recently arisen regarding Vonage is that the company seems to get messages crossed.
Many voice mail messages have wound up in the wrong places, which (as I’m sure you can imagine) leads back to the former issue regarding security. Suppose you placed a very important (very secret) phone call by leaving a voice message. If that voice message wound up in the wrong hands, you could have a lot of different problems to deal with. Though VoIP services as a whole tend to have many different complications, the problem with Vonage seems to be that this company hasn’t worked out all the glitches just yet.
Vonage offered its services to consumers almost immediately following the company’s completed patents (which, are currently under dispute fromVerizon), but some believe that this release came too soon. Rather than thinking through their company carefully, Vonage really jumped the gun and started providing services that were not entirely stable. Though there are still many Vonage users today, the company is starting to lose its validity within the eyes of VoIP users.
In the end, VoIP services are still very new to the average consumer, and this is precisely the problem with Vonage. Still, there are many high hopes for Vonage in the future, and the company will find many land line users more than willing to switch to VoIP if the current issues are fixed.
